            "Worship, Teach and Serve"

A Brief Introduction to Our Church

"The Mission of The United Church in Walpole
is to Worship, Teach, and Serve
in the traditions of our Congregational heritage,
according to the teachings of Jesus Christ,
for the benefit of all humankind."

The United Church in Walpole is a member of the United Church of Christ. It is located next to the post office at 30 Common St., Walpole. The church office is open from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday, and an answer tape is also available after office hours.

church pictureSunday morning worship in the sanctuary begins at 10 AM and, on the first Sunday of each month, we also have a chapel service at 8:15 AM. This schedule is followed from the Sunday after Labor Day until June. During the summer, worship in the sanctuary and childcare begin at 9:30 AM with no chapel services.

From September through June, childcare is available during the 10 AM service for infants, toddlers and two year olds. Children age three and older attend the opening of Sunday worship with their families. Following a regularly scheduled children’s time, the children go to their church school classrooms. Church school for children and youth, Nursery Three through Grade Nine, begins around 10:15AM

Classes Nursery Three through Grade Five use a Godly Play approach to Christian Education. Based on the Montessori method, these classes invite the children to wonder about themselves, God, and the world in ways that are playful and meaningful to them. Stories of scripture and traditions of the church are told using engaging story materials and a variety of creative activities, encouraging the children to seek and find their own answers to their faith questions.

Grades Six through Twelve are engaged in the Journey to Adulthood, a program of spiritual formation for young people that provides a Christian frame for their experience in our modern culture, celebrates their creative potential, engages them in service, and instructs them in skills needed for successful adult participation in the church and society.

Confirmation classes with the Pastor are integrated into the Journey to Adulthood program during the Ninth Grade. The young adults of Grades Ten through Twelve make use of their skills of adulthood in service and study through a program called “Journeys”.

In addition to educational programs, the youth meet regularly for Christian Fellowship with the Junior (Grades 5-8) and Senior (Grades 9-12) Pursuit Youth Groups.

Short-term Bible stories, book discussion groups, parenting groups and faith explorations are available for adults as well as an ongoing lay ministry training program and prayer chain. Adult service opportunities include serving at the Grace Episcopal Church soup kitchen in North Attleboro on the second Wednesday of each month (leaving Walpole at 3:40 p.m.) and occasional Habitat for Humanity work projects. Adult and family fellowship events are scheduled throughout the year. Musical programs offer the Senior Choir and adult handbell choir, as well as a variety of children's choirs.

"Family Ties: The Children's Center on the Common," a non-profit, non-sectarian daycare, provides child care for children ages 2 years, 9 months to 7 years. It is open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Family Ties offers full day and morning preschool programs. We are licensed through the Massachusetts Office of Child Care Services and were recently accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs. For more information, contact the Director of Family Ties at 660-3053.

As an outreach to our community, the church provides rent free use of one of our buildings to the Center for Community Counseling and Education. The main church building, is used by a number of other community organizations.

The building is handicapped-accessible with a ramp and an elevator. There is ample parking in the lots on either side of the building or at the neighboring lots belonging to Delaney & Son Funeral Home (48 Common St) and Thomas & Sons Funeral Home (45 Common St).
For more information or to receive a weekly newsletter of events, call the church office at 668-0551.
